 OK....  I got a call from the publisher this morning !!!!The book  has arrived and is being shipped today!   My copies are in the mail so I have not seen the finished book yet.
 
 
 

ALS ARTISAN BOUTIQUE

 SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 22 at the SHERATON ANNAPOLIS FROM 10-6   The Sheraton is right across form the Annapolis Mall.  I will have a booth and will be selling and exhibiting my paintings.   This is a great place to do some Christmas shopping.  Go to http://www.alsinfo.org and scroll down to see information about the 55 artists participating. Color and Design Workshops

 This is a small piece I designed for my color workshops coming up in 2010.  Those of you who have taken the Color and Design class should know the color family ??????? I will post the design on www.rugandwool.com. The pattern, Fantasy Flower will be available shortly. This piece is also a good example of broken borders and the use of casseroles in the scrolls. 

The workshop will be offered at the Howard County Center for the Arts  February 27.   Stay tuned for a Color Family workbook coming out next year.
 

 I read  something today that I thought I would like to share. Too often we are caught up in our daily routines and never stop to smell the roses.  Consider the following:

• Work as if it was your first day
• Forgive as soon as possible
• Love without boundaries
• Laugh without control
• and never stop smiling

Rug Hooking Video

 I have produced a first You Tube video. The purpose of the videos is to show some of the techniques in my new book above. I know that I am a visual learner and it helps to see how to do it rather than read about it. Many of you are also like me!  The first video is really #2 in the series and is all about "shagging."  Shagging is my way of depicting grass or vertical forms in a work of fiber. Great Class with Ron Ranson

Last week I had the  great privilege of taking a 4 day class with a master painter-- Ron Ranson. Mr. Ranson travels all over the world teaching at the age of 84!   He was a fabulous instructor and a wonderful person.  Taking classes with all type of painters is the best thing you can do to expand your abilities.

Even with my wild colors and negative painting, I gained valuable  skills from  this experience. Take a look at his page www.ronranson.com and if you have a chance grab a class with him!!!

New Pictorial: Aran Landscape FINISHED!!!

 

This small pictorial was inspired by my love of Ireland. This cottage is on the Aran Islands. I placed a small picture (about 6"x6") inside a larger  landscape. I often do this with my paintings and I have discovered it works well in fiber also. The challenge is making each area look different, especially the skies. The center of interest is the fuchsia blossoms not the cottage.

COLOR and DESIGN

COLOR and DESIGN starts next Sunday, September 27 at Anne Arundel Community College-- West campus. We meet from 1 O'clock to 3 O'clock. There is still time to register by calling 410-777-2325. This class is all about color and my color families and each participant will be creating a special color planning tool in class.

I paaked my caaa in Boston this weekend!!!!

My Boston accent got a shot in the arm this weekend. I love this city and all it's historic buildings and history. Unfortunately, since the big dig I was totally lost driving around .   This is me and my two great kids. Luckily one of them lives in Boston!

This flag hanging from one of the public buildings  was spectacular.  Below is the sign for Durgin Park. I introduced my husband to this Boston landmark. My great grandfather used to eat there. The food is still great and the waiters still nasty!!!

This is the Boston Common and the swan boats. It was a gorgeous day and I took about 50 pictures. I feel a rug or painting in the making!!!!

This is one of my favorite pictures. I love the shadows. I was sitting in  a coffee shop on Newbury street and decided to feed the birds. I quickly took this picture.

A wonderful pictorial workshop in Hiawasee Georgia!!!!

 It was a great three days hooking at Linda Bell's beautiful home on the lake in Hiawasee. Everyone went home pixelating, shagging, meandering and just having fun. Now finish those rugs!!!!!

This is Melanie Clem to the left, and below (right) is her pixelated shrubbery. She designed her very large rug. After 3 days she was half way done!  Cherry, Becky and Karen are across the table.
