I wanted to show the progression of the painting from the stage on the lower left where it is only a shadow. This was wet on wet at the first stage. I placed bands of green blue and violet at the top and let then drip to the base. I used my spray bottle to make the paint drip. This was my under-painting.
I had to continue to develop the shadows on the petals-- wet on wet-- floating pale colors of permanent rose, cerulean blue and lavender at the base of the petal.
The final step is to be courageous and paint around the white flowers to pop them out. As I painted I tried to createinteresting shapes and think foliage. You have to work fast so that the paint is stillwet. You don't want any hard lines to form. Notice my lost and found edges around the smaller magnolia blossom. I know it is hard the first time you attempt a white flower, but I believe in practice, practice, practice!!!
