Happy Thanksgiving

   Thanksgiving 2008 was great. We are thankful for all our blessings. My husband Don on the left..... me and my two children above-- Kate and Marc. My daughter is a scientist in California and my son is an industrial designer in Michigan. They live too far away!   My nieces and nephew on the right. They are the 3 musketeers--- always hamming it up! We had 13 people for dinner including Don's 2 boys and girlfriend. Between us we have 5 children from previous marriages. It is always busy in our house.  When they all leave I'll get back to work finishing my book and getting ready for a heavy class schedule in January.

Time Travel

   My Mom and I met the general in Annapolis this morning. He wouldn't let us go back to 17th century Annapolis with him. He was only here for a few hours to buy some 21st century goods! We are actually getting ready for a fun Thanksgiving week with family!!!   Happy Thanksgiving!

ALS ARTISAN BOUTIQUE

When I am not hooking a rug or dying wool, I paint. This Sunday, November 23  I'll be at the Sheraton Hotel on Jennifer Road in Annapolis participating in an art show to benefit Lou Gehrig's Disease.  If you live near Annapolis I encourage you to come on over. The show starts at 10 am and ends at 6 pm.  Hope to see you there!

Desperate Painters!

  These are the "Desperate Painters"  They look too happy to be desperate!    We had a class on color and every person used the  same design (My Maine Buoys's) to create a color plan that worked. The Wednesday night watercolor class ends this week and it has been fun for me. 

Some people think watercolor is hard but it really isn't. There are only  four basic ways of applying paint to paper. If you master those and practice frequently -- every day if you can --you will be a very good painter in a few years!   Congratulations to this great class.

More rugs from the Pictorial Class

  This rendition of "Nubble Light," which is a Fraser pattern is being hooked by Marge Barnard.  She is in the group class  picture but her rug was hidden!   It is her first pictorial and it will be in my new book next year!  I wish you could see the detail in the American Flag on the left side of the Keepers cottage. Great job Marge.... now you have to finish!!!

Pictorial Class Ends :(

  I am really proud of this class. Pictorial Rugs are difficult and this class mastered all the difficult elements from rocks to water!  We had  sunset skies, stormy skies and everything between!   From left to right in back--Cyndra Mogayzel with "Fisherman's Cottage," Suzanne Welch holding "Nubble Light," myself, Marge Barnard with "Nubble Light," Diana Schofield with "Covered Bridge." Mary Havran with "Nubble Light", and Chryl Kaisler with a huge Primitive rug designed by Emma Lou Lais.  In front sits Pam Manders witrh "Nubble Light." Most of the designs were Fraser patterns.   The class was great!   I'll miss you all through the holidays but FINISH THOSE RUGS!   You have plenty to keep you busy! 

Not the Antiques Road Show-!!Important information for Rug Hookers

The rugs we make today are valuable. Just because they aren't on the Antiques Roadshow ,  is not a good  reason to avoidgetting them appraised. You have a real investment in these rugs-- just think of the time alone!!!-- and if your rug is lost, stolen, or destroyed, the only proof of value that will be accepted by the post office, UPS, or an insurance agent is a written appraisal.   If you sell your rugs it is good proof of their value-- some people need that proof.

Rug hooking is lucky to have Mary Lou Bleakley and Janet Lennon. They both are interested in helping rug hookers in this area. They are trained to do appraisals of contemporary hooked rugs and this  is an unusual profession.
