This is an invitation to attend the 5th Annual Art Show to benefit Linthicum Walks Historic House-- Saturday and Sunday, October 11 and 12 from 10 am to 4 pm. The show is at 2295 Davidsonville Road, Gambrills/Crofton). I'll be greeting visitors Saturday morning.
This painting, "Amazing Rose," will be in the show. Those of you who know my painting style will recognize the numerous layers of negatively painted shapes. It was a slow one to paint, but I loved every minute of it!
Last year, much to my surprise I sold every birds nest I brought to a local art show. This year I'm prepared with a variety of color plans. This is a challenging color plan for a negative painter and definitely NOT something you'll see in the tree in the backyard!
Here it is-- the finished painting. The title is "Glory to God." Sometimes I feel like I step aside from the actual painting process and my hand is moved by a power outside of myself. In this case I think God held the brush! I am grateful to all the wonderful people who have supported my art career-- teachers, friends, spouses, and spiritual forces!
You can see the painting is progressing. As I apply the second layer I am creating interesting shapes in the background. This step is very intuitive and my hand seems to move on it's own sometimes! The second layer consists of the same colors as in the first but darker in value. I'll let you see the finished product in a few days. At this point I hope there is a finished painting. At the third stage it can be lost--you never really know for sure until the final stroke goes down.
I'll post my progress on this new painting. I am preparing for a solo show next year of rugs and paintings and this large piece will be a companion to the Morning Glory rug. This is the second step in the painting process. I laid down a very pale wash of permanent rose, blue-green, and lilac as an underpainting on the entire design including the flowers. Now I am focused on the second step which is to pull out the first set of vines and to begin sculpting the actual flowers. I paint the Flowers wet on wet. I still have a long way to go on this 22"x 30" full sheet. I'll show you step #3 in a few days.
