My wide Cuts are receiving new attention these days as I return to teaching them. First, I don't know where the term "close up" came from!!!! --these wall hangings must be viewed from a distance to appreciate them, but I'll stick with the name anyway!
I was frustrated years ago by the time it took to hook a rug. I had a dream one night and a design came to mind and the thought--why can't I rip my strips in 1" wide strips and shade a flower with 8 values just like a tapestry piece? I did it and it was a HUGE wall hanging and took about 2 weeks to hook. I loved it. I did one that was 8 feet tall--tulips! There are pictures of me standing next to the rug and I look small next to the tulip tops! Anyway-- rug hooking is the best and I still can't figure out why everyone doesn't hook a rug!!!!!
